Barcelona’s Metro network (TMB) has 6 lines and a tramway, and currently boasts 123 stations distributed over its 86.6 Km of track. Eighty eight of the stations do not intersect with other lines. Fifteen stations intersect with 1 other line, and 1 station intersects with 2 other lines. Nine stations are connected to the RENFE network (Spain’s national rail service), 4 to the regional rail services and 1 to the Montjuic Cable Car. The average distance between stations is 650 m.
At the end of 2007, the underground network’s rolling stock comprised 746 vehicles, of which 598 were engine cars and 148 were unpowered carriages. The most modern trains have interconnected carriages, allowing for optimal passenger distribution. 100% of the fleet is air-conditioned.
